Introduction text to the book “Sleeping Beauties by Nina Mae Fowler for Hotel Beaumont curated by Kalkman Gallery”

Occasionally a perfect match is found. The Sleeping Beauties collection by Nina Mae Fowler for Hotel Beaumont is the result. It all started with a telephone call from Christophe Beaumont. He asked if I collaborated with an artist who would be able to capture their hotel’s century-old history within Maastricht.

Reflecting upon the high quality standards of the hotel, I immediately felt Nina Mae Fowler and Hotel Beaumont would be a strong match. In terms of quality and beauty their style is a great fit. Nina Mae Fowler has the same high standards in her practice as Hotel Beaumont has for their establishment and their level of hospitality. They truly reinforce each other.

The collaboration has resulted in a mesmerizing body of work which will adorn the walls of the newly renovated rooms and foyer of Hotel Beaumont for many years to come. The Sleeping Beauties collection consists of

sixteen original drawings and more than fifty prints. This book shows the sixteen drawings, supported by an extensive and in-depth interview with Nina Mae Fowler. She explains how the collection evolved, her motivations and her working method.

It has been a pleasure to be part of this match-making. To see the drawings by Nina brings me much pleasure. I hope you can enjoy the company of the Sleeping Beauties during your stay at Hotel Beaumont or when you leaf through this book. I am more than proud of this amazing collection and take my hat off to Nina Mae Fowler and to Christophe and Jean-Marc Beaumont.
